Accept Debit and Credit Card Payments

Included in all Invoice2go subscriptions is the ability to accept debit or credit card payments on invoices. To start accepting online payments is easy: (1) turn it on, (2) link your bank account and (3) have your customers pay you online.

You can turn on payments either from settings or at the invoice level. We recommend you keep payments enabled at the account level and turn it off at the invoice level for particular jobs where you want your customers to pay with cash or check.

If you are enabling payments for the first time, you will be asked to set up direct deposit by linking your bank account with Stripe. Invoice2go has partnered with Stripe to help process and securely manage your customer’s online payments and allow your money to be automatically deposited into your bank account. If the account email you used to sign up for Invoice2go is already registered with a Stripe account, you won’t need to create a new one — just log in to your existing Stripe account with your current Stripe credentials.

Once you have linked your bank account to Stripe and started receiving online payments from your customers, Stripe will process your funds and should deposit them into your bank account within 2 business days of the transaction. *Please note that the first transaction you receive will take at least 7 business days to transfer, which is a necessary holding period for complying with anti-money laundering regulations and to reduce the risk of fraud.

When you start accepting debit and credit card payments, your invoices will include a “View Invoice Summary” button that allows your customers to pay you online with either their debit or credit card. If after receiving your first payment and you still haven’t set up direct deposit with Stripe, you will receive an email from Invoice2go requesting you to link your bank account with Stripe.

There is a fee of 1.75% + $0.30 per transaction. For example, for a payment of $100 from your customer, you would pay $3.20 for processing, and Stripe would deposit the remaining $96.80 to your bank.

Partnering with Stripe

Invoice2go has partnered with Stripe, a PCI Service Provider Level 1 payment processor, to allow you accept debit and credit card payments on invoices you send to your customers. From your Stripe account, you can access information like incoming transactions, their associated payment ID number and when they will be deposited into your bank account.

Once you have turned payments on, you will need to link your bank account with Stripe. Stripe requires your bank information to validate your business, deter fraud and comply with government regulations. If you have a PayPal business account with a bank account setup, you may provide this information as your bank information.

If your Invoice2go email is already registered with a Stripe account, the app will prompt you to connect your Stripe account by signing in with your current Stripe login credentials.

Minimum Requirements

Accepting debit and credit card payments is enabled for iOS v. 9.0.0 or higher and Android v. 8.1.8 or higher. If you are unable to access payments on your mobile device, update to the latest version of Invoice2go on the App Store (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play Store (Android). The app version number is found at the bottom of the settings section within the Invoice2go app.

Accepting online card payments is also accessible from the Invoice2go web app, when logged into your Invoice2go account. Google Chrome is recommended for the best payments experience.

Helpful Tips

  • Download the Stripe app (Apple App Store only) or log into your Stripe dashboard on the web to view all your debit and credit card payment transactions and when your money is expected to be deposited to your bank. *Please note that Invoice2go has no control over how soon your money will be deposited in your account.
  • Accepting online card payments creates new opportunities for potential customers. Your added flexibility of how you allow your customers to pay you makes it easier for people to do business with you.
  • Accepting online payments not only saves you time so you don’t have to wait for a check in the mail or spend extra time making multiple ATM trips to deposit cash or checks, but it also minimizes the risk of misplacing your funds.
  • Invoice2go merchants that switched to accepting online card payments say they now paid up to 8 days faster than before.

Do these steps look different? If so, you may be using a previous Invoice2go version. See instructions here.
