Migrating from older versions of Invoice2go for iPhone and iPad

This article applies if you're migrating from an older version of Invoice2go for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod). This version has an icon with a white background and green paper planes (see below).

Why upgrade?

We highly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of Invoice2go. The older version you're currently using is:

  • No longer supported with new software updates or features
  • Stores your account data on your device, so this data is not accessible if you lose or replace your device
  • Not compatible with devices running iOS 8 or later
  • No longer available for download on the App Store

To get started

You likely received an in-app notification or spoken with our support team to register and purchase the latest version of Invoice2go. So if you haven’t done so already, please visit https://buy.2go.com/newinvoice2go to complete your registration and purchase.

If you have already completed your purchase, you should have received an email with your email login, temporary password and purchase receipt. The email was sent to the email address you used to register.

Before you migrate data from the old app to the new app

IMPORTANT: Do not remove or uninstall the old Invoice2go app yet. You will need it to migrate all of your account data over to the new App. Make sure your device is running iOS 7 or later. If you’re running on iOS 6 or below, please click here.

How to check what version you’re running: To see what version you’re on, tap on your device’s Settings icon and tap General>About and you’ll see a field labeled “Version.”

If you haven’t already, download the new Invoice2go on the App Store on the same device as your old app.

Once you have the new app, you will see this new icon on your device (see below). You don’t have to open the app, sign in or create an account just yet.

Instructions for migrating your data

NOTE: This process requires a Wi-Fi connection. We recommend doing this on a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid any interruptions in your connection.

After downloading the app, you will need to create a backup of your data in the old Invoice2go app.

1. In the old Invoice2go app, go to Settings. Then tap Backup under the Database section. You will then see this screen:

2. Click Open In… Then select the new Invoice2go app (green background with white paper planes). The new Invoice2go app will appear.

You will see the following message:

3. Tap on OK to continue. Next you will be able to log in. Enter the email address and password that was provided to you in the email that was sent to you. Then click Log In.

4. Tap on the (?) icon in the password field to change your temporary password.

If you entered the incorrect email address, the Email Not Found error message will appear. You can choose to Try Again or Sign Up. By tapping Try Again you will have the opportunity to re-enter your email address. If you select Sign Up, you will be taken to the Payment Form to create an account.

5. After logging into your account, a message will display explaining that the new app needs access to your location to be able to sync in the background. This means that your data will be synced to the cloud which allows you to access your data on any device with the Invoice2go app or on a computer with internet connection. Select Allow to be able to sync your data in the background.

6. Once you tap Allow, you're ready to start using the New Invoice2go App.

Migrating from older versions of Invoice2go for iPhone and iPad (iOS 6 or earlier)

This article applies if you're migrating from an older version of Invoice2go for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod) on a device running iOS 6 or earlier. This version has an icon with a white background and green paper planes (see below).

How to check what version you’re running: To see what version you’re on, tap on your device’s Settings icon and tap General>About and you’ll see a field labeled “Version.”

IMPORTANT: If your main device is running on iOS 6 or earlier, you may need a separate iOS device to migrate your account data to the new Invoice2go app.

For devices running on iOS 6 or earlier, you may be prompted to upgrade your device to iOS 8 or later, which would permanently delete the old app and your Invoice2go account data from the device. The old app is only compatible with iOS 7 or earlier. So, if you cannot just upgrade to iOS 7 and do not have access to a separate device you can use to install the new Invoice2go app, you can choose to keep using the old app.

So, if you are able to upgrade to iOS 7 on your current device, or have a separate device that runs on iOS 7 or later, you can follow the steps below.

NOTE: This process requires a Wi-Fi connection. We recommend doing this on a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid any interruptions in your connection.

1. In the old Invoice2go app, go to Settings. Then tap Backup located in the Database section and select Email.

2. Email the data backup to yourself.

3. On the separate device running on iOS 7 or later, download the new app. You can do this by going to the App Store and search for Invoice2go.

4. Open the email with the data backup that you emailed to yourself on the device that has the new Invoice2go app installed.

5. Tap and hold the file icon attached to the email until you see a screen with the Copy to Invoice2go option, as seen in the example below.

6. Tap Copy to Invoice2go. The new Invoice2go app will appear. You will see the following message:

7. Tap on OK to continue. Next you will be able to log in. Enter the email address and password that was provided to you in the email that was sent to you. Then click Log In.

9. After logging into your account, a message will display explaining that the new app needs access to your location to be able to sync in the background. This means that your data will be synced to the cloud which allows you to access your data on any device with the Invoice2go app or on a computer with internet connection. Select Allow to be able to sync your data in the background.

10. Once you tap Allow, you're ready to start using the New Invoice2go App.
